It's come such a long way and has grown into a true masterpiece. ART! Utility and beauty intertwined. I have a crush on your meadow house, is what I mean to say.

    Very thoughtful. All the little details that wouldn't be thought of...envisioning potential problems with water, circulation, bugs and wildlife getting into the home, etc. The cottage is very charming and inviting! I love the dark green color with the warm staining. Sander is amazing with his workmanship. The previews of the awning and rain chains add so much character. I can't wait to see the gardens in progress in the spring and summer Thank you Sander and Summer! :)

    • @FlockFingerLakes
      @FlockFingerLakes  Год назад +1

      It shouldn't get too hot. It has air gaps above and in front on the sides. And the gable is 'empty' and uninsulated. Eager to see whether a bird will be v convinced to move in! Let's keep fingers crossed and wait until spring

    When painting wood you have to use a special primer that blocks the sap from coming up. You have to do a couple of coats and then you paint with the colored paint.

  • @wimhance6541
    @wimhance6541 Год назад +2

    The paint/sap issue just ads a little rustic patina to the perfection, it's not a bad thing. I couldn't see, but is there any planting to shield from the road?

    • @FlockFingerLakes
      @FlockFingerLakes  Год назад +1

      we have some small trees starting close to the road. Ideally we actually take up the entire lawn and turn it all into a garden, which may be a project for either 2024 or 2025. We have to be careful not to plant trees too close to the home, however, because there was a pre-existing septic system, which we wouldn't want any tree roots finding.

    If people put a bird house in at home, do remember that they need cleaning out annually

    • @earthzeroapothecary
      @earthzeroapothecary Год назад

      When is the best time of year to do that? I don't want to disrupt a mother if she has eggs in there. I'm new to birdhouses and we put up two this year.

    • @FlockFingerLakes

      Very important point. Thanks for bringing it up. Prevents any disease or mite transfer, for example.

    • @FlockFingerLakes

    Wonderful job on the house! I learned a lot and it also inspired all kinds of ideas for a house I have in mind. I love your detail-oriented and thorough workmanship, Sander! You two make such a complimentary pair!
    Quick question: On the eastern porch where the trellises are, to the right of them is a plant pot planted with what looks like a type of grass. I don't know if it was just the lighting that the camera caused, but the grass looked a little copper-colored. Can you tell me what the name of that plant is?

    • @FlockFingerLakes
      @FlockFingerLakes  Год назад

      We would have typically done fiberglass, which is best in class, as we were really focused on having to use less energy in the house, but we did a fiberglass-vinyl blend to keep within budget for this project. Renovation is always a compromise and most always a budgetary balance, as anyone who does it, knows.

    • @deh2775
      @deh2775 Год назад

      I agree. Renos are about compromise. I just wouldn't have compromised in this area. To each his/her own. I still think what you've done with the Meadow House is gorgeous. @@FlockFingerLakes
